Eternal Alaska began with a simple mission: helping families honor final wishes in the extraordinary landscapes of Alaska.
As families began asking us to carry out memorials in meaningful places across the country, our mission grew beyond one state. Eternal Legacy reflects who we have become — a nationwide ash scattering memorial service.
Our name has changed. Our commitment to families has not.

When you are unable to travel to the place that meant something to your loved one, Eternal Legacy can make that journey on your family's behalf.
Every unattended memorial is handled with dignity, care and transparency and includes:
Real-Time Tracking
Follow the journey to the scattering destination.
Scattering Moment Video
Witness the actual memorial shortly after it takes place.
GPS Documentation
Receive the exact location along with a memorial certificate.
Professional Photography
Receive photographs of the landscape chosen for their final resting place.
Accompanied memorials are also available by request at select destinations.
There are few memorials as peaceful and meaningful as a final farewell at sea.
This "Scattering Moment" video captures a real ash scattering ceremony aboard Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. After coordinating with Guest Services, Security, and the Captain, a biodegradable urn containing a loved one's cremated remains was respectfully committed to the ocean
in accordance with cruise line policies and federal regulations.
This “Scattering Moment” video captures an unaccompanied ash scattering memorial conducted by Eternal Legacy in Denali National Park, Alaska, in September 2025. The family followed the journey through real-time tracking and received the video within minutes of the scattering. Every Eternal Legacy memorial is handled with transparency, dignity, and care.
This “Scattering Moment” video was sent to the family shortly after we completed an unattended ash scattering service on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. Eternal Alaska provides GPS-tracked, fully documented cremation ash scattering services across the U.S., offering comfort, grief support, and beautiful memorial experiences for families.
This “Scattering Moment” video shows the ash scattering memorial conducted in Arizona, during an unattended service. Eternal Alaska’s ash scattering services offer real-time tracking, GPS coordinates, and video documentation to honor final wishes and support families through the grief journey.
Reporter Megan Leonhardt from Fortune Magazine sat down for an in-depth interview with us recently to find out exactly what we do and why.
Reporter Mary Jordan from the Washington Post interviewed us about why we never ask you to put a stamp on your loved one and send the cremated ashes through the mail.

We coordinate their secure transfer and handle the transportation and destination requirements.
Eternal Legacy began with two experiences that changed the way founder Stan Reese thought about final wishes.
While working in the Alaska wilderness in 2018, Stan often heard visitors say they hoped to return someday—not just for another vacation, but as their final resting place. They talked about having their ashes scattered among Alaska’s mountains, waters and wilderness because of the connection they felt to those places.
A year later, that idea became deeply personal when Stan’s brother passed away. After the cremation, the funeral home handed Stan a box containing his brother’s cremated ashes and simply said, “Your brother is ready to go.”
Stan remembers the realization that followed: Ready to go where? What was he supposed to do now? Like many families, he had been given the ashes but very little guidance about what came next.
That experience ultimately led to Eternal Alaska, now Eternal Legacy—a service created to help families carry out meaningful final wishes when they may not know how, or may not be able to make the journey themselves.
Today, Eternal Legacy provides unattended ash scattering memorials at meaningful destinations across the country, handled with care, transparency and respect.
