On that historic day, Eternal Legacy Service plans to begin the Centennial Legacy Journey in Chicago and head west along the Mother Road — creating a once-in-a-century opportunity for one family's loved one to make one final American road trip.
More Than 2,400 Miles Across America
From Chicago to the Pacific
The Route 66 Centennial Legacy Journey is planned to begin in Chicago and travel west through the eight Route 66 states toward Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean.
Historic Route 66 alignments and landmarks will be incorporated wherever practical.
Ash scattering locations will be researched individually and used only where scattering is legally permitted and appropriate. Eternal Legacy Service will coordinate applicable permissions and requirements for planned memorial locations.
It Doesn't End at Santa Monica
After traveling the Mother Road from Chicago to California, the journey is planned to conclude at the Pacific — completing the passage from the beginning of Route 66 to America's western shore.
Subject to weather, marine conditions and applicable requirements, the final chapter is planned as an ash scattering at sea at least three nautical miles offshore in the Pacific Ocean.
The journey includes up to 25 individually documented scattering moments.
